CollegePrep has three major initiatives:
Programs
It establishes high school/College Articulation Agreements to link high school credit courses with programs at the College. Formal articulation agreements are in place whereby students who successfully complete particular high school courses are given credit for admission into related College programs. High school students are also able to earn dual credits (high school and NSCC) by taking selected courses at the College as a co-operative education placement through their high school. Through programs such as Youth Energy Quest, Techsploration, Young Women's Skills Conference, Skilled Trades Exploration Program (S.T.E.P.), and Nova Scotia Skills Competitions, assists high school students to understand their opportunities at the College.
Pathways
It works with the College to develop clear admission and selection criteria for College programs as the foundation planning and preparation for success at the College, and provides "Pathway" information to students for career planning beginning as early as grade 3.
Portfolio
It works with the Department of Education and school boards to promote the development of junior and senior high school portfolios that can link to the College Portfolio Project. It provides professional development for teachers to assist in the implementation of student portfolios.
CollegePrep works closely with the Department of Education on the initiatives "Options and Opportunities (O2)", Youth Pathways and Transitions, and with Skills Nova Scotia Framework on portfolio, articulation, youth apprenticeship, and skills education.
