Hands-on, practical learning

Student Highlights 2010

Automotive Service & Repair – "If you're somebody that doesn't mind getting down and dirty and breaking some nails, well this is the program for you."

Business Administration – "The highlight of the Marketing program is the hands on work. It was a great learning experience to actually 'do' instead of always reading and being tested."

Continuing Care – "This program allows you to be almost completely hands-on. You learn the essential skills and are confident of them before you go into clinical. The interactions with the clients, and the time that you spend with them, is what truly makes the program worthwhile!"

Drafting - Architectural – "If you're interested in houses and the way they are built, and you like to draw, then I think you should take this program. It's interesting and a lot of fun to use AutoCAD."

Graphic & Print Production – "The hands-on experience at NSCC made me very confident in becoming a press operator at a commercial printing plant. My favourite job is to run a nice, high-quality flyer. When I see it somewhere around town, it makes me feel good knowing that it is my work." | Anna-Lee Peeples, Press Operator, KenMac Print (Class of 2009)

Information Technology – "Working with Lego robotics provided a great way to learn the finer points of programming. Having access to hands-on equipment was also a great way to learn network trouble shooting skills."

Information Technology – "Getting to actually work and learn hands-on with the industry software right away was big for me. I came from a university background, doing practical things was much better than lectures."

Information Technology – "My highlight - hands-on learning and having down-to-earth instructors who work in the field."

Music Business – "Hands-on learning - we organized events, which was a main focus of our program, and we got to run the events all the way through, it was a great way to learn, and was the most realistic for our industry."
